The Williams Bulldogs can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They managed a 66-62 win over Falls Lake. The win was all the more spectacular given Williams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Falls Lake is ranked 66th).
Williams' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alaiyah Mitchell led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mitchell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Taylor, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Falls Lake lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emerson Thompson. Despite the final result, she shot 4-for-10 from long range and dropped a double-double on 37 points and 14 rebounds. Thompson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Destiny Williams was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Williams' victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Falls Lake, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williams will take on Cedar Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Falls Lake won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Raleigh Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th.
