4A Region I District 2 recap October 29, 2013
Canutillo extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 2 this week by beating Eastlake, 49-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Eagles.
Canutillo moved up to 234 from 327 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Scott Brooks' team was able to move up by topping the Falcons 49-0.
Javier Gomez was a beast in the backfield as the Eagles bested Eastlake.
Gomez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Canutillo bested Jay Calderon's team. He completed 8 passes for 113 yards and also ran for 247 yards. Gomez's favorite target this week was C'Vann Guillen, who caught 2 passes for 58 yards.
ANDRES SILVA threw for 50 yards and 7 touchdowns.
SILVA put up the best numbers in passing as Parkland bested San Elizario. SILVA's favorite target this week was JORDAN FOWLER, who caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
6-foot-5 quarterback Steven Montez of Del Valle is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,568. He has also thrown 25 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Erik Camacho. The Horizon star has 42 catches for 916 yards.
Camacho of the Horizon's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 84 receiving yards in this week's game against the Falcons to get there. So far this year, he has acheived 42 catches for 916 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Ysleta takes on the Eagles. As it stands, the Indians are in fifth, while Canutillo is in second.
The Eagles fell to the Matadors 58-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Juan Lopez was a bright spot for San Elizario, as he threw for 53 yards and ran for 22 yards in the loss.
