Even though the Flagler Panthers have not done well against the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Flagler walked away with a 39-32 victory over Genoa-Hugo/Karval. The victory was familiar territory for Flagler who now have three in a row.
Flagler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylie Stone led the charge by scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Stone's third in a row with at least ten points. Sydnie Berry was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Despite the defeat, Genoa-Hugo/Karval saw an underclassman step up: Rylee Kelly scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Haley Ewing, who scored two points along with three steals and three blocks.
Flagler's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Flagler will take on Fleming at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fleming focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Friday. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they will head out on the road to face off against Hi-Plains at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Hi-Plains is ranked 133rd, while Genoa-Hugo/Karval is ranked 138th).
