LYONS, Kan. - After swapping the lead two times,
Smoky Valley (Lindsborg, Kan.) took the lead for the win when
Matt Guerrero ran for a touchdown in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over
Lyons (Kan.) 56-28.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Guerrero in the second quarter, the Vikings were up 34-14 at the half.
Smoky Valley expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. SV scored three times in the third, including once on a
Christian Hansen touchdown run.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Lindsborg school came away with a 20-6 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Lyons, who notched a 42-20 victory over Nickerson in its previous outing. The loss snapped Lyons' three-game winning streak.
Lyons (4-2) will play a non-conference game against Ellsworth next week, while Smoky Valley (6-0) will take on McPherson also in a non-conference game.
