Newport Harbor hasn't had much luck against Los Alamitos recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Newport Harbor will head out on the road to square off against Los Alamitos at 3:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Newport Harbor took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Corona del Mar get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sailors yet this season.

Virginia Peterson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dominique Bettencourt, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Shaw, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Newport Harbor hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Los Alamitos). They came out on top against Huntington Beach by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Oilers: they've now won four in a row.
Los Alamitos pushed their record up to 3-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Newport Harbor, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-6 record.
Newport Harbor might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Los Alamitos in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Newport Harbor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
