The Newcomb Skyhawks lost against the Bloomfield Bobcats back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Newcomb was the victim of a tough 53-30 defeat at the hands of Bloomfield. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Newcomb has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Newcomb saw an underclassman step up: Jazlyn Begay scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Miller, who scored six points.
Aliya Quintana was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds for Bloomfield. That makes it four consecutive games in which Quintana has scored at least 25% of Bloomfield's points. Another player making a difference was Danielle Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Newcomb now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Bloomfield, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcomb will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Grants at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bloomfield will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Roy Municipal School at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
