Starmount was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 2A/1A Conference 6. The Rams defeated Elkin 35-21 earlier in the week.
North Wilkes took down East Wilkes 49-32 last week, the largest margin of any game. LJ Hendren threw for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.
Will Simpson was a passing and rushing force as Starmount defeated the Elks. He completed 2 passes for 26 yards and also ran for 131 yards.
He went 7-9 with 1 interception.
Simpson was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 131 yards on 13 carries as Scott Johnson's team bested the Cardinals. Teammate John Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
North Wilkes' Hendren and Bare led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hendren has thrown for 1,081 yards this season, while Bare, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 24 catches for 512 yards. Simpson from the Rams leads the league in rushing with 401 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Monty Chipman's team's Bare goes up against Elkin's Dakota King.
Next week's game between the Vikings and James Scott Wood's team will feature a good passing match up as Hendren will test his arm against King's defensive ability.
The Elks are in third place, while North Wilkes is in first place.
The league will see a high scoring game when Elkin and the Vikings face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Elks comes in having scored 115 this season, while North Wilkes has scored 150. Elkin scored 21 points last week as it fell to Starmount.
The Vikings led 2A/1A Conference 6 in scoring this week by notching 49 points on East Wilkes. Hendren in the win.
