Augusta Christian extended the longest winning streak in SCISA AAA this week by beating Heathwood Hall Episcopal, 26-12. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Lions.
Tyler Roberson and Thomas Banks gave Augusta Christian a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Roberson threw for 171 yards and one touchdown, while Banks ran for 95 yards. Teammate Roberson added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.
Tyler Pannell was the best wideout in the league this week as Wilson Hall bested Ben Lippen. Pannell racked up five receptions for 83 yards. Jay Goodson helped Wilson Hall's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kody Watson of Cardinal Newman is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1961. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, Keith Walton's team's Banks has rushed for 947 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nick Fortenberry. The Augusta Christian star has 39 catches for 830 yards.
Going into this week's game against the Falcons, the Cardinals' Watson needs 39 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
The Lions' Banks needs only 53 yards against Orangeburg Prep next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two of the top units in SCISA AAA will face off this week when Augusta Christian takes on the Indians. The Lions' offense has recorded 352 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Orangeburg Prep has permitted only 139 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Adam Holmes' team takes on Augusta Christian. At the moment, the Indians are in third, while the Lions are in first.
Hammond led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Pinewood Prep.
