The Broadneck Bruins came tearing into Monday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 48-38 win over Chesapeake. Given Broadneck's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Cougars are ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broadneck's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samantha Miller, who scored 19 points along with three steals. Miller is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was London Best, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kasey Slade, who scored 11 points along with three blocks. Slade has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaila Ansted, who scored five points.
Broadneck pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Chesapeake, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broadneck will take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Chesapeake, they will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
