Corpus Christi Moody and Ray are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Corpus Christi Moody has given up an average of 34.1 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Corpus Christi Moody's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Gregory-Portland two weeks ago. They were outmatched by the Wildcats and fell 56-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, after only nine points in their last contest, Ray made sure to put some points up on the board against King last Friday. The Texans enjoyed a cozy 35-17 win over the Mustangs. The Texans pushed the score to 35-10 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.
Ray's win came from a few key players Corpus Christi Moody will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brian McCullum, who rushed for 160 yards and two scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 52 receiving yards. He has become a key player for Ray: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. The Texans also got help from Huzefa Ullah, who showed off his sure hands for 111 receiving yards.
Ray's run defense was locked in: King could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jaycen Elmore for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ray is a perfect 3-0 when they shut down the run game so well.
Ray's defense didn't let Tatum Emerson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Elmore, James Stevenson, and Manuel De La Garza, who each picked up one sack apiece. Elmore was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Ray is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.4 points over those games. As for Corpus Christi Moody, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Corpus Christi Moody has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 225.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ray struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 204 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Corpus Christi Moody couldn't quite finish off Ray in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 23-21. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
