If the Yucaipa Thunderbirds were feeling good off their 75-54 takedown of the Rialto Knights on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Yucaipa took a 73-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of San Jacinto on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Malik Young and Jonathan Campbell certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Young scored 31 points along with 5 assists, while Campbell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 rebounds. Young scored a full 48.4% of Yucaipa's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tristan Doty was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Yucaipa were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Jacinto only pulled down two.
San Jacinto was led to victory by Josiah Mejia and Stephen Castleberry. Mejia scored 23 points along with 7 assists and 7 steals, while Castleberry scored 30 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals. The matchup was Mejia's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brian Kincherlow, who scored 10 points.
Yucaipa now has a losing record at 3-4. As for San Jacinto, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Yucaipa will be playing in front of their home fans against Palm Springs at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Palm Springs will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. San Jacinto will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Hemet at 6:15 p.m. on December 7th.
