This week's postseason excitement didn't throw the rankings into complete disarray, but it did reorder the standings a decent amount. A special shoutout goes to Gardner-Edgerton's junior Teven Mckelvey, who scored seven total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Can't Touch This
Gardner-Edgerton got a 49 - 28 win over Shawnee Mission Northwest last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Teven Mckelvey. Mckelvey rushed for 255 yards and six touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Mckelvey as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Bishop Miege (6th in the power rankings) and Pittsburg (22nd). Bishop Miege took its contest against Pittsburg by a conclusive 49 - 20 score. One of the main ringleaders for Bishop Miege was junior Brison Cobbins, who earned three touchdowns and 167 yards rushing the ball.
Movin on Up
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for McPherson in its matchup against Ulysses. The team got that and then some. McPherson blew past Ulysses 48 - 17. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Jace Kinnamon, who ran for 185 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 11, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Bishop Carroll (7th in the power rankings) and Northwest (2nd). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. With each team boasting a good deal of offensive firepower (Bishop Carroll has four high-flying games in a row, Northwest nine), it will be interesting to see who can run the score up higher.
