Gaffney had a rough outing against Byrnes last Friday, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Gaffney had enough points to win and then some against Hillcrest on Friday, taking their match 27-7. That result was just more of the same for Gaffney, who also won the last time these teams played.
Junior Kelvin Kirby was the offensive standout of the match for Gaffney, as he rushed for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse junior Caden Richards, who racked up nine tackles.
The victory bumped Gaffney's record up to 5-1. The loss dropped Hillcrest back to even at 3-3.
Gaffney will stay at home next week against Dorman at 7:30 PM. Since neither squad is a stranger to landslide victories this season, you'd better bet it will be hard-fought showdown. Hillcrest will be playing at home against Riverside at at 7:30 PM. Those two teams have had a rocky road up to this point with three consecutive losses for Hillcrest and six for Riverside.
