The Wenonah Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 24 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 62-23 blowout they got on the road against Carver Birmingham. With Wenonah ahead 35-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Wenonah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Samarian Franklin out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Franklin has scored at least 25% of Wenonah's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Blanks, who scored 21 points along with three steals.
Wenonah pushed their record up to 17-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Carver Birmingham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-12.
Wenonah is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Pleasant Grove at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Pleasant Grove is ranked 24th, while Wenonah is ranked 50th). As for Carver Birmingham, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Jasper at 6:00 p.m. Jasper is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
