Even though the Marion Warriors have not done well against the Council Grove Braves recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Marion came out on top against Council Grove by a score of 40-32. The score was all tied up 18-18 at the break, but Marion was the better team in the second half.
Marion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Hett, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Kraus, who scored nine points.
Marion has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for Council Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marion will take on Sedgwick at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Council Grove won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lyndon at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Lyndon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Council Grove in Kansas (Lyndon is ranked 120th, while Council Grove is ranked 248th).
