The Brunswick Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Evans. Brunswick was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Evans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Brunswick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Craig Battle. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Caleb Butler was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Evans got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taj Ford out in front who scored 20 points along with three steals. The game was Ford's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brice Wallace, who scored 23 points.
Brunswick has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Evans, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-8.
Brunswick and Glynn Academy will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Glynn Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Brunswick likes a good challenge. As for Evans, they will head out on the road to face off against Grovetown at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grovetown will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
