The Glenbard North Panthers will head out to square off against the Wheaton North Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Glenbard North had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Geneva on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Vikings 20-4. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Gina Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Glenbard North got a massive performance out of Tru Medina, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Sarah Bilek also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Glenbard North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wheaton North waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-5 win.
Ava Hartnett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hana Stoner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Wheaton North's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Glenbard North, their record is now 11-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Glenbard North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Wheaton North struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glenbard North came up short against Wheaton North in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
