Heide Trask and Southwest Onslow are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heide Trask is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Heide Trask's tournament run continued when they took on Lumberton on Tuesday. The Titans fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 4-3.
Dava Bullard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Heide Trask saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
James Kenan hit Southwest Onslow with a six-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Stallions took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Stallions have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Whitney Grissett and Skylar Phillips did some serious damage despite the final result: Grissett went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Phillips got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Haylie Anderson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Southwest Onslow's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Heide Trask, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Southwest Onslow's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Heide Trask has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Southwest Onslow, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Heide Trask's sizable advantage in that area, the Stallions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Heide Trask skirted past Southwest Onslow 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stallions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
