The Mt. Olive Wildcats can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They snuck past Lebanon with a 42-36 win. The victory was just what Mt. Olive needed coming off of a 55-26 defeat in their prior matchup.
Mt. Olive found their leader in underclassman Matthew Bywater, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 15 rebounds, and nine steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Briley Viviano, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Mt. Olive's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-14. As for Lebanon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Mt. Olive will square off against South County at 6:00 a.m. on Friday. South County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mt. Olive in Illinois (South County is ranked 187th, while Mt. Olive is ranked 759th). Lebanon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on First Baptist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. First Baptist Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
