Two dominant backs in Jackson Kerr and Shepard Paugh are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Williamstown Yellowjackets will challenge the South Harrison Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Harrison took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Williamstown, who comes in off a win.
Williamstown will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points last Friday, then bounced right back against Poca on Friday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Dots 39-19. Considering the Yellowjackets' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Breck Allen had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 152 yards on ten of 20 attempts.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Williamstown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 267 rushing yards. They are 2-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Williamstown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Carson Haines, Carter Hoops, and Jack Moore picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, South Harrison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 34-8 to Doddridge County. The game marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
South Harrison's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Williamstown, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Williamstown has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 215.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Harrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 285.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Williamstown against South Harrison in their previous matchup back in November of 2016, as the team secured a 55-27 win. In that contest, the Yellowjackets amassed a halftime lead of 35-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
