Basketball Recap: Colonial Heights Falls Despite Big Games from Cameron Hartsoe and Za'marion Mason

Colonial Heights was the 60-44 winner over J.R. Tucker when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Colonial Heights Colonials took a 64-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the J.R. Tucker Tigers on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Colonials can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while the Tigers are ranked 25th).

Colonial Heights' loss came despite strong showings from Za'Marion Mason and Cameron Hartsoe. Mason went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds, while Hartsoe went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The match was Hartsoe's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bret Lipscomb, who posted six points.

Colonial Heights' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for J.R. Tucker, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Colonial Heights will take on Grace Christian School in a tournament on December 27th. As for J.R. Tucker, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Patrick Henry at 5:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
