Even if things were shuffled around here and there, the power rankings for this week won't seem too unfamiliar if you've been following along. Don't let that fool you into thinking nothing interesting happened, though. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Colfax and Center.
Can't Touch This
Rio Linda got a 56 - 14 win over Nevada Union last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Cameron Skattebo. Skattebo ran for 390 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Skattebo as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Folsom (1st in the power rankings) and Del Oro (2nd). The final score between Folsom and Del Oro was a 40 - 0 blowout in Folsom's favor. One star in particular for Folsom was senior Kaiden Bennett, who tossed the ball for 299 yards and four TDs.
No Stoppin 'Em
Placer managed to bank 189 more yards than its opponent Lincoln last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Placer snuck past Lincoln with a 52 - 48 victory. Placer had two big standouts, as junior Jesse Whigam rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Brad Bishop earned four touchdowns and 124 yards rushing the ball. The combined 100 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
Movin on Up
Ripon claimed most-improved honors this week by climbing the power ranking ladder nine rungs after its game against Modesto Christian. Ripon narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Modesto Christian 25 - 22. Ripon and Modesto Christian were a much more even match than Ripon's previous opponent, giving the fans a heck of a game.
