The Leigh Longhorns will take on the Piedmont Hills Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Leigh comes in on six and Piedmont Hills on three.
Leigh barely beat Homestead the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Leigh never let Homestead get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. Considering the Longhorns have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leigh got a great performance from Marcus Glanville as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Glanville gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Dylan Christian was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lance Takamura, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Leigh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Hills won against Lincoln on Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Piedmont Hills had just enough and edged out Lincoln 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 19, 2024.
Piedmont Hills got a big performance out of Travis Linane, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Linane snagged this season. Toby Torres was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Leigh's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Piedmont Hills, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Piedmont Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leigh hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. It's a different story for Piedmont Hills, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Leigh's hitters?
Everything went Leigh's way against Piedmont Hills in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Leigh made off with a 12-0 victory. Will Leigh repeat their success, or does Piedmont Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
