Berkshires recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Pittsfield, who took down 115th ranked Lee/Lenox Memorial, 22-14.
St. Joseph Central was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in Berkshires. Earlier in the week, the Crusaders triumphed over Easthampton/Hampshire 32-14.
St. Joseph Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jon Bianchi threw for 70 yards and Zack Neary had 38 yards receiving. On the ground Lavante Wiggins chipped in 75 yards. Wiggins helped St. Joseph Central's passing attack out by catching two balls for 11 yards.
St. Joseph Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bianchi has thrown for 164 yards and one touchdown this season, while Taverick Roberson has three catches for 63 yards. Wiggins leads the league in rushing with 299 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mt. Greylock Regional takes on Hoosac Valley. At the moment, the Mounties are in second, while the Hurricanes are in fourth.
Wahconah Regional moved up to 61 from 138 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Berkshires. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-0 win over Drury.
