Austin Watts of Sumrall ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Region 8 this season against St. Patrick last week. Watts scampered for 92 yards on the play and finished with 92 on the day as his team bested the Fighting Irish.
Seminary was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Pass Christian 50-21.
Sumrall's dynamic duo of Will Simon and Watts proved tough for St. Patrick to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Simon threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns and Watts had 185 yards receiving. Devontae Watts helped Sumrall's passing attack out by catching one ball for 58 yards.
Tre Pace was the most productive running back in the league this week. In eight carries, he ran for 94 yards as West Marion beat Joe Rocconi's team. Teammate Vonnie Harrell added to the ground attack by rushing for 84 yards.
The Bobcats' Simon and Watts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Region 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Simon has thrown for 2071 yards this season, while Watts, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 47 catches for 844 yards. The Trojans' Harrell leads the league in rushing yards with 698.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when West Marion takes on Perry Central. Brad Duncan's team is currently in first, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Trojans take on Perry Central. West Marion has allowed 45 points this season, while Todd Lowery's team has given up 157. The Trojans allowed 6 points last week as they bested Collins.
West Marion extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tigers, 46-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
