The Greencastle Tiger Cubs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 55-45 win over Edgewood. Winning is a bit easier when you nail seven more threes than your opponent, as Greencastle did.
Greencastle found their leader in underclassman Sam Gooch, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gooch has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Sullivan, who scored ten points.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carl Norris, who scored 14 points. Kamren Ranard was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Greencastle is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Edgewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greencastle will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Tri-West Hendricks at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Tri-West Hendricks presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Greencastle in Indiana (Tri-West Hendricks is ranked 78th, while Greencastle is ranked 211th). As for Edgewood, they will head out on the road to square off against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Bedford North Lawrence's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games.
