Godby and Madison County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Godby Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Madison County Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Godby posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat FAMU DRS 65-20 on the road. The victory was just what Godby needed coming off of a 68-30 defeat in their prior matchup.
Godby's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cristina Brown, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Brown continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Cornelius, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Madison County got the win against Suwannee on Tuesday by a conclusive 62-42.
Janiyah Mcknight continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 36 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Madison County's points. Jaidyn Wesley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Godby's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Madison County, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Godby have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 38.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Madison County, though, as they've been averaging only 33 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Godby came up short against Madison County in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, falling 59-55. Can Godby avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
