Olentangy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Marysville Monarchs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Olentangy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
Even though Unioto scored an imposing 63 points on Monday, Olentangy still came out on top. Olentangy beat Unioto by the very same score they won with last week: 65-63. Given Olentangy's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Unioto is ranked 50th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sydney Mobley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chayla Rankin, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, Marysville's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. Their tough 80-60 loss to Varsity Opponent might stick with them for a while. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Olentangy's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. As for Marysville, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-2.
Olentangy beat Marysville 59-49 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Olentangy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
