The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 64-42 defeat to West Craven might stick with them for a while. SouthWest Edgecombe was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Craven apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, SouthWest Edgecombe still got an impressive performance from Xander Brown, who scored 17 points. Ricky Smith was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
West Craven got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Junior Cherry out in front who scored ten points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Amari Boomer, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
SouthWest Edgecombe's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for West Craven, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SouthWest Edgecombe the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Farmville Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Farmville Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 games -- so hopefully SouthWest Edgecombe likes a good challenge. As for West Craven, they will be playing at home against Ayden - Grifton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ayden - Grifton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
