Newcomb is 1-9 against Tohatchi since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Newcomb Skyhawks will be staying on the road to face off against the Tohatchi Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, Newcomb was able to grind out a solid victory over Wingate, taking the game 67-55.
Newcomb's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savier Thomas, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mikal Ashley, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Tohatchi was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 81-80 to Thoreau. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (79), Tohatchi still had to take the loss.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Malcolm Brown, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Kyle Yazzie was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds.
Newcomb's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Tohatchi, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.
Newcomb was taken down by Tohatchi 76-45 in their previous matchup back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Newcomb was down 41-20.
