The Lowry Buckaroos will square off against the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lowry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Virgin Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Lowry heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Saturday. They fell just short of Fernley by a score of 9-8. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Peyton Anguiano made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Elisabeth George was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Virgin Valley faced Pahrump Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Trojans. The win was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on three straight.
Julia Leavitt was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mady Wright, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Virgin Valley's victory bumped their record up to 21-12. As for Lowry, their defeat dropped their record down to 28-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Lowry hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Virgin Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lowry skirted past Virgin Valley 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Buckaroos repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
