Riverdale Country and Horace Mann are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Riverdale Country let Trinity stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Friday but luckily Riverdale Country prevailed anyway. The Falcons came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 8-5.
Daniel Hakim tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jesse Horowitz, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Max Darringer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Riverdale Country kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Horace Mann is still undefeated this season after their game against Fieldston on Monday, but Fieldston came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 2-0 shutout. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The result came thanks to Zach Schwartz's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Matthew Fratepietro was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Miles Dvorett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Riverdale Country's record now sits at 2-3. As for Horace Mann, their record is now 8-0.
Riverdale Country couldn't quite finish off Horace Mann when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 3-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
