4A Region III District 23 recap October 22, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Emond Hobbs and Claude Lowe connected against Angleton. The connection went for 85 yards, the longest such play in 4A Region III District 23 this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, George Ranch beat Lamar Consolidated 35-28. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Scott Nohavitza provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Mustangs lost to Ricky Tullos' team. He completed 10 passes for 159 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 130 yards. Nohavitza's favorite target this week was Bobby Lewis, who caught 5 passes for 91 yards.
Nohavitza was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 130 yards as Lamar Consolidated fell to the Wildcats. Darius Turner also contributed to the rushing game with 65 yards on the ground.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Ronald Patton's team's Lewis goes up against the Exporters' Hobbs.
One of 4A Region III District 23's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Brazosport and the Mustangs face off next week. Derek Ibekwe has dominated opposing QBs with a total of 5.0 sacks, while Hobbs has 1,137 passing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Foster takes on Terry. The Falcon are in second place, while the Rangers are in fourth place.
Terry moved up to 386 from 448 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Tim Teykl's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Bay City 70-14.
