Mercy dropped their record down to 12-13 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the South San Francisco Warriors by a score of 11-10. Surprisingly, this marked the Bears' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Charlotte Kell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Kell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, McKenna Fua and Aveline Anderson did some serious damage despite the final result: Fua went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Anderson went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Vikki Saenz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
As for South San Francisco, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games.
Like Mercy, South San Francisco also got a great game from a two-way player: Sydney Semans. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Semans was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Madyson Jade Quintanilla was incredible, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Keira Crutchfield was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Mercy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South San Francisco, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 18-3 victory against El Camino on the 16th.
