The Bishop's Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bishop's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
Bishop's stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard. They put the hurt on Classical Academy with a sharp 42-21 victory. The score was close at the half, but Bishop's pulled away in the second half with 31 points.
Margo Leong and Ayla Johnson were among the main playmakers for Bishop's as the former almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds and the latter scored 18 points. Leong has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamaili Lasua, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (the Lancers were 23% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Joseph Academy was outmatched by the Lancers on the road and fell 58-30. While losing is never fun, St. Joseph Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Lancers are ranked 83rd).
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Luciana Aguilar and Brieana Brown. Brown had a great game and scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Aguilar was balling out in the loss, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Bishop's is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for St. Joseph Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-14.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bishop's have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Bishop's took their win against the Crusaders in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 62-38. Does Bishop's have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
