The Brooks Lions will challenge the Arab Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Thursday, Brooks didn't have quite enough to beat Athens and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by just one run.
Karley Moreland was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Moreland was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Baylee Darby was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Roberson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Even though they lost, Brooks hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Arab fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Boaz on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost six in a row.
Madi Hartline spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 12 Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Mattie Couch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Harris, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Brooks' defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Arab, their record now sits at 1-4.
