Softball Recap: Kearney Wins Going Away Against Gering

Kearney never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against the Gering Bulldogs as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

Avery Longshore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Alexa Jacobsen was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August. Kennedy Lee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Kearney has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gering, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Kearney will head out on the road to square off against Lincoln Southeast at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gering, they will take on Polk County in a tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Slammers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
