Clairton hasn't had much luck against Bishop Canevin recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bears will host the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. Clairton has given up an average of 15.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Clairton is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to Serra Catholic.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Bishop Canevin made sure to put some runs up on the board against Springdale on Wednesday. The Crusaders were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Dynamos. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Tyler Maddix made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bishop Canevin is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Maddix was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Wagner, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Bishop Canevin is undefeated when Wagner posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaryn Edwards, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Bishop Canevin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Clairton's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Bishop Canevin, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Clairton suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Bishop Canevin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
