The Valley Vista Monsoon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight defeat. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cesar Chavez. While losing is never fun, Valley Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Champions are ranked 21st).
When it comes to explaining why Valley Vista lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maximus Romero. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Trevor Currington, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Valley Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Cesar Chavez, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley Vista won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Tolleson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday. As for Cesar Chavez, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Maricopa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Friday.
