Baseball Recap: Jackson-Reed Wins High-Profile Contest Against Washington Latin Public Charter School

Jackson-Reed faced Washington Latin Public Charter School in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson-Reed got a great performance from Teddy Benach as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Benach a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Jackson Loomis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Alex Ouzts was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Jackson-Reed is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Washington Latin Public Charter School, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jackson-Reed will face off against Ballou at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Washington Latin Public Charter School, they will take on Richard Wright Public Charter School at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
