State championship week in Alabama high school football began Wednesday with the Class 7A state championship game.
Thompson (12-1) jumped on Central (12-2) early and never looked back, avenging last year's state championship game loss to the same team with a 40-14 win.
The Warriors led 26-7 after three quarters en route to their first state title since 1982.
There are three championship games scheduled for Thursday as Pleasant Grove (14-1) faces Central of Clay County (12-3) in 5A, Piedmont (13-1) takes on Mobile Christian (9-4) in 3A and Mars Hill Bible (14-0) battles Lanett (13-0) in 1A.
On Friday, Oxford (13-1) meets Spanish Fort (9-4) for the Class 6A title, Jacksonville (13-2) battles UMS-Wright (13-0) in 4A and Reeltown (13-1) takes on Fyffe (14-0) in 2A.
Jordan-Hare Stadium, home of the Auburn Tigers, will serve as the host site for all seven state championship contests.
Champions in 2018 include Mars Hill Bible (1A), Fyffe (2A), Flomaton (3A), UMS-Wright (4A), Central Clay County (5A), Pinson Valley (6A) and Central-Phenix City (7A).
