The Orestimba Warriors entered their tilt with the Argonaut Mustangs with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Orestimba wrapped up 2023 with a 68-50 victory over Argonaut. Given Orestimba's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while Argonaut is ranked 810th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Orestimba to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caleb Marin dominguez, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Marin dominguez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Matthew Wales was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Argonaut lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being JJ Lungren, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Mcmahan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Orestimba's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Argonaut, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Orestimba will finish 2023 at home by hosting Pacheco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Argonaut's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fortune Early College at 6:30 p.m. on December 29th. Fortune Early College is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game.
