Western has gone a perfect 10-0 against Clay recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Clay will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Western extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Indians were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Green.
Western never let Green on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-17, 25-17.
Among those leading the charge was Aubrey Penwell, who had ten digs and two aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Western was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Clay made easy work of East on Tuesday and carried off a 3-0 win.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Clay was: they took every set by at least 12 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-6, 25-13.
Clay found their leader in sophomore Mia Lunsford, who had nine digs and six aces. Those six aces set a new season-high mark for Lunsford. Chloe Carver also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Western's record is now 12-10. As for Clay, their record now sits at 16-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's matchup: Western has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Western skirted past Clay 3-2 in their previous matchup back in September. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
