The Avon Panthers put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Holbrook and snuck past 72-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Avon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Guerrier led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 22 rebounds. Guerrier set a new season high mark in blocks with five. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyisah Miranda, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 assists.
Avon pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Holbrook, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Avon will be playing in front of their home fans against Hull at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hull is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Holbrook, they will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Connolly at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Connolly has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
