The Fallbrook Warriors will take on the Escondido Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fallbrook hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Fallbrook lost 15-1 to Westview on Tuesday.
Fallbrook saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate Nath, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Escondido ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They blew past Valley Center 15-8. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Amelia Gastelum made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits. Gastelum was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendall Workman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sofia Velazquez, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Escondido lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Fallbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Escondido, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fallbrook hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Escondido struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
