Abbeville is 3-0 against Newberry since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Abbeville Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Newberry Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Abbeville comes in on four and Newberry on five.
Last Friday, Abbeville was able to grind out a solid victory over Mid-Carolina, taking the game 63-51. Given Abbeville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Mid-Carolina is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abbeville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justin Rollinson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Damarcus Leach, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, even though Saluda scored an imposing 66 points on Wednesday, Newberry still came out on top. Newberry took their game against Saluda 78-66.
Abbeville pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Newberry, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Abbeville didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Newberry when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-47 win. Will Abbeville repeat their success, or does Newberry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
