The Cowan Blackhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 45-20 loss at the hands of Monroe Central. Cowan was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-8.
When it comes to explaining why Cowan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Davelynn Lindsay. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cowan struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Monroe Central racked up 13 assists.
It was another big night for Sydney Patterson, who scored 26 points along with six steals for Monroe Central. That makes it three consecutive games in which Patterson has scored at least a third of Monroe Central's points. Another player making a difference was Addy Puckett, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Cowan's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Monroe Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Cowan will head out on the road to challenge Knightstown at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monroe Central, they will be playing at home against Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Delta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday.
