Even though the Freeport Pretzels have not done well against the Rockford Auburn Knights recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Freeport came out on top against Rockford Auburn by a score of 54-42. The win made it back-to-back wins for Freeport.
Dedric Macon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Freeport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Pierson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Rockford Auburn's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rakim Chaney, who scored ten points along with two steals. Chaney is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaidan Dozie, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Rockford Auburn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Freeport is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Rockford Auburn, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will square off against Byron at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Byron is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Rockford Auburn won't have much time to rest: their next game is against DeKalb at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. DeKalb has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 429 points over their last seven games.
