The Sumter Gamecocks put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lugoff-Elgin 103-51 at home. Sumter has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 24 points or more this season.
Sumter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiara Croskey led the charge by scoring 28 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Croskey is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Rickell Brown was another key contributor, scoring 29 points along with five assists and three steals.
Jillian Rush and Kamille Charles certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Rush dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Charles dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Rush scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teryn Hobson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sumter only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Sumter's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Sumter will head out on the road to face off against Socastee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Socastee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Sumter is ranked fourth). As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will be playing at home against Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
