Hunt hasn't had much luck against Southern Nash recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Warriors will challenge the Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. Hunt is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Hunt is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past Eastern Alamance 30-28.
Hunt can attribute much of their success to Doryan Jones, who rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown, and Mez Harris, who rushed for 55 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. The Warriors also relied on Harris, who's 47-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game. Isaiah Chadwick was in the mix as well, providing Hunt with one TD.
Hunt didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: CJ Dickerson and Chadwick, who each picked up one interception apiece. Hunt received some extra help from Chadwick, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Southern Nash didn't have too much trouble with Southeast Alamance on Friday as they won 58-39. The Firebirds pushed the score to 58-23 by the end of the third, a deficit the Stallions cut but never quite recovered from.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Camron Lyons and Jaden Hartsfield. Lyons gained 150 total yards and three touchdowns while Hartsfield rushed for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries. Lyons also rushed for 107 rushing yards, which is notable because Southern Nash is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Battle, who threw for 108 yards and two TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Southern Nash's run defense was locked in: Southeast Alamance could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Luke Faulkner for the heroic effort on defense: he. Southern Nash didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.
Southern Nash's defensive line didn't let Tyler Jackson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Zion Odom and Taj Martin, who racked up five sacks between them.
Hunt's record is now 9-2. As for Southern Nash, their record now sits at 7-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Hunt has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 252.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southern Nash struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 314.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Hunt strolled past Southern Nash when the teams last played back in October by a score of 51-34. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Hartsfield, who rushed for 188 yards and three scores, and also picked up 38 receiving yards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Warriors still be able to contain Hartsfield? There's only one way to find out.
